Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Shipping group A.P. Moller-Maersk is maintaining flows of food and medical supplies into the Gulf through alternative land-bridge routes, as regional tensions disrupt maritime traffic.
The conflict has significantly reduced shipping activity in the Gulf, following the closure of the Strait of Hormuz, sending ripple effects across global supply chains.
Maersk has rerouted cargo through regional ports including Jeddah in Saudi Arabia, Salalah and Sohar in Oman, and Khor Fakkan in the United Arab Emirates, before transporting goods overland to destinations across the region.
The company is prioritising essential goods such as food and medicines, while indicating that some spare capacity remains on these alternative routes.
