Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Egypt Marine Ports (EMP), the transport ministry's commercial arm, has signed agreements with the Suez Canal Economic Zone (SCZONE) to build and manage cargo handling facilities at Egyptian ports.
A license agreement was also inked to operate berth 22 at Ain Sokhna Port for 18 months, processing and storing ordinary cargo as well as clean dry bulk. The change is aimed to increase operating efficiency and make better use of existing infrastructure.
The two sides also agreed to perform feasibility and market studies, as well as complete regulatory permissions, within 18 months after signing a contract to construct, manage, and develop a new general cargo and clean dry bulk terminal at the port.
The plan is part of a larger attempt to improve private sector engagement in marine transport and Egypt's share of global transit commerce, while also improving the competitiveness of Ain Sokhna Port as a vital regional logistics center.
