
Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Babcock, the authorized distributor of Volvo Construction Equipment in Southern Africa, has introduced the new Volvo A60 articulated dump truck to the area as part of the company's current generation of articulated carriers.
The 55-tonne A60, the biggest 6x6 articulated transporter presently available, follows the regional debut of the A40, A45, and A50 models in June 2025.
According to Quintin O'Reilly, head of sales for Babcock's equipment division, the first ten units have been delivered to a mining contractor that operates an earlier-generation A60 truck fleet in the coal industry.
Demand for the current generation series has been considerable, with Babcock claiming sales of over 100 articulated haulers within six months of the previous models' introduction.
The A60 has Volvo's most recent motor, an improved gearbox, and performance-enhancing axles. According to the business, the machine has up to 15% greater fuel economy and 5% higher production than prior versions.
Other features include OptiShift for quicker directional shifts and Terrain Memory, which detects treacherous road portions and optimizes traction. Volvo Dynamic Drive dynamically modifies gear selection depending on operating circumstances, increasing economy and operator comfort.
Maintenance has also been simplified, with longer lubrication intervals and servicing stations accessible from the ground level. The truck may also be outfitted with Volvo's Haul Assist system, which includes onboard weighing and offers real-time payload data to assist avoid overloading and enhance operating efficiency.
Babcock distributes Volvo Construction Equipment throughout southern Africa, encompassing South Africa, Zambia, Botswana, Mozambique, Namibia, and Zimbabwe, offering equipment sales, spares, and service support across the area.
