Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Hutchison Ports Sohar has inked an agreement with ZPMC for the provision of 12 automated electric rubber-tyred gantry cranes (AeRTGCs) which will help enhance the terminal’s sustainability and automation agenda.
The new cranes are scheduled for delivery in the second quarter of 2027 and will be powered by grid-connected electric power, which will cut emissions while improving terminal capacity and operating efficiency.
The AeRTGCs will include automated and remote-control capabilities, be able to stack containers as high as six levels, and will be equipped with state-of-the-art safety technology, including anti-collision and anti-sway systems.
The investment is part of Hutchison Ports Sohar’s larger plan to upgrade operations and support the Sultanate’s Logistics 2040 vision, while contributing to Oman’s long-term sustainability and net-zero objectives.
The new equipment will complement the port’s existing portfolio of green technologies including electric quay cranes, electric trucks, electric forklifts and a solar-powered inspection facility, reinforcing Sohar’s position as one of the region’s most advanced and environmentally focused logistics hubs.
