Bahrain's Alba Selects Konecranes To Upgrade Five Smelter Cranes

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Konecranes has been awarded a contract to modernise five auxiliary cranes at Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C.'s (Alba) aluminium smelter, allowing for safer and more dependable material handling.

The project, which started in January 2026, will see equipment delivered by the end of the year, with installation set to commence in early 2027.

The improvement will concentrate on the cranes in Alba's Casthouse and Mould Shop, where molten aluminium is turned into final products and continuous production is crucial. As part of the project, Konecranes will replace the old hoist and trolley systems with heavy-duty M8-rated trolley units and modernize the electrical systems.

The modernisation also involves the installation of an additional electronic drum brake to increase operating safety and performance in heavy-duty applications with continuous lifting cycles.
