Work Begins On SAL Cargo Facility Expansion At Riyadh Airport

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Saudi Logistics Services Company (SAL) facilities at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh are being renovated and expanded by Rowad Modern Engineering, a part of Egypt's Elsewedy Electric Group.

The contractor will manages all processes of updating infrastructure and developing new support facilities. The refurbished property seeks LEED Gold.

SAL has said it would spend up to $293 million on cargo station development.

Riyadh's handling capacity will grow from 442,000 tonnes to 806,000 tonnes yearly with the addition of 70,000 square metres of operating area.

SAL's growth plan includes a long-term lease to build 90,000 square metres of cargo facilities at the airport.

The company handles about 95% of Saudi Arabia's aviation cargo at 19 airports, making the project a vital logistical infrastructure development.
