Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Dubai's Roads and Transport Authority has awarded a contract to create three integrated truck rest facilities in collaboration with the private sector, as part of efforts to boost the emirate's logistics infrastructure.
The facilities will span more than 210,000 square meters and can handle up to 490 trucks and heavy vehicles. They will be situated along important transportation routes and logistical centers to accommodate significant amounts of daily truck traffic.
The rest areas are constructed to worldwide safety standards, with separate entrance and departure points, and are intended to increase driver wellbeing, eliminate random roadside stops, and improve traffic flow over the network.
Dubai's logistics industry continues to grow, with over 500,000 truck movements recorded daily and around 85,000 registered vehicles in the emirate, increasing need for specialized infrastructure.
The three locations will provide integrated services such as lodging, maintenance, training facilities, and retail stores. The biggest facility, in Jebel Ali, will cover over 100,000 square metres and service up to 250 trucks, while two more sites, Saih Shuaib and Madinat Hind 2, would each handle approximately 120 vehicles.
According to authorities, the initiative would help Dubai improve supply chain efficiency and strengthen its position as a worldwide commerce and logistics center. It also represents a larger trend of public-private collaborations in infrastructure construction to increase operational efficiency and sustainability.
