China Harbour And Sichuan To Develop $5 Billion Saudi Highway Project

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - In a project worth SAR 19 billion ($5 billion), China Harbour Engineering Company and Sichuan Construction Engineering Group are scheduled to start construction on a 130-kilometer roadway connecting Abha in Saudi Arabia's Aseer area with Jazan.

The route is anticipated to cut the existing travel time between the two cities from around three hours to about ninety minutes.

According to officials, the project is one of the Kingdom's most significant transportation achievements as it consists of 26 bridges and tunnels as well as infrastructure enabling multimodal transportation systems.

The roadway aims to enhance transportation connections between Abha, Khamis Mushait, and Al-Majardah, which together house about half of Aseer's population.

In order to ease traffic during times of high travel demand, authorities are also researching rail link for Bisha and other multimodal transportation options.

If a build-operate-transfer strategy is used, the project might have a total value of SAR 39 billion ($10.4 billion).
