Mawani Awards $267 Million Logistics Hub Expansion At Jeddah Port

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - The Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani) has signed seven contracts totaling nearly SAR 1 billion ($267 million) to build new logistics centers at Jeddah Islamic Port and the adjacent Al-Khumra Logistics Zone, expanding Saudi Arabia's port infrastructure to support rising trade volumes and strengthening its position as a regional logistics hub.

The agreements would provide over 384,000 square meters of warehouse, storage, consolidation, and re-export space.

The initiatives are projected to boost supply chain efficiency while producing over 5,000 direct and indirect employment, in accordance with Saudi Vision 2030 and the National Transport and Logistics Strategy.

The additional projects bring the number of logistics centers at Saudi ports to 34, including 17 at Jeddah Islamic Port, with a total investment surpassing SAR14 billion ($3.73 billion).

Among the projects is a SAR40 million ($10.7 million) arrangement with A.P. Moller-Maersk to build a 60,000 square meter container yard at the port.

Digital platforms meant to optimize cargo handling and commercial procedures are helping to drive logistics development.

Al-Khumra's direct linkages to Jeddah Islamic Port, King Abdulaziz International Airport, and the Kingdom's highway network are projected to boost cargo flows and strengthen Saudi Arabia's desire to become a global logistics hub linking Asia, Africa, and Europe via the Red Sea.
