DP World To Develop Two New Fujairah Port Terminals

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - DP World and the Fujairah Ports Authority have reached an agreement in principle for a 50-year concession to build two additional terminals in Fujairah, increasing the UAE's container, general cargo, and vehicle handling capacity.

The project comprises the Al Rugaylat container and multi-purpose port as well as the Dibba General Cargo terminal, which will serve as a new deep-water gateway on the UAE's east coast for the next generation of ultra-large container vessels.

Once completed, Al Rugaylat will have the capacity to handle 2.5 million TEUs, 1.7 million tonnes of general cargo, and 190,000 car equivalent units (CEUs) per year, while Dibba will add 3.6 million tonnes of general cargo. The expansion will take DP World's overall container handling capacity in the UAE from 19.4 million TEUs to almost 22 million TEUs.

The terminals will be linked to DP World's inland logistics network, connecting Fujairah with Jebel Ali Port and Jafza, giving clients more supply chain flexibility and improving cargo flows throughout the UAE and worldwide markets. Construction will be completed in stages and is expected to take 24 to 30 months from the start of work.

Fujairah, located on the Gulf of Oman outside the Strait of Hormuz, has direct access to major international shipping lanes, providing cargo owners with an alternative gateway that strengthens supply chain resilience while supporting the UAE's ambitions to grow as a global trade and logistics hub.
