The construction industry is often one of the first sectors where structural changes become apparent. Investments are planned over the long term, and uncertainty tends to slow decision-making early on. As a result, shifts in supply and demand can be observed here at a relatively early stage.
As a service provider specialising in the inspection of used heavy equipment, we see these developments first-hand. Only a few years ago, most of our clients were based in Central Europe and the United States. The US market in particular has pulled back noticeably—driven in part by stricter emissions regulations and more recent trade measures.
At the same time, new focal points are emerging. Today, we increasingly work with clients from Central America, parts of Africa, and also from countries such as Spain and Greece, which are seeing renewed activity.
Another trend carries even greater weight: the origin of available used machinery is shifting. A growing share now comes from China. At the same time, we see increased demand for equipment with less complex emissions after-treatment requirements and greater tolerance for varying fuel quality. In addition, in traditional core markets such as Germany and France, machinery appears to remain in service longer—suggesting more cautious investment cycles.
In recent months, we have also carried out more inspections for clients in Ukraine, Israel and neighbouring regions. It is likely that demand for machinery related to reconstruction and infrastructure projects is a contributing factor. Unfortunately, infrastructure that has been destroyed and must be rebuilt does not generate any reasonable economic value.
For us, the question is not whether markets are shifting, but how to respond. We are continuing to expand our presence in international markets and are actively seeking dialogue with partners on the ground.
