Komatsu Commissions First Power Agnostic Truck At Boliden’s Aitik Mine

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Komatsu, in partnership with Boliden, has commissioned the first diesel trolley truck from its new power agnostic series at the Aitik copper mine in Gallivare, Sweden. The Komatsu 930E truck began field trials on April 23, 2025, marking a significant milestone in efforts to decarbonize surface mining.

First unveiled at MINExpo 2024, the 930E features a modular design that allows operators to start with diesel power and transition to battery-electric or hydrogen fuel cell systems. The truck is also equipped with diesel trolley assist functionality to reduce fuel consumption and emissions.

The 12-month trial at one of Europe’s largest open-pit copper mines aims to collect operational data and performance insights. The results will help guide future developments in Komatsu’s power agnostic platform and support ongoing efforts to create a lower-emission mining industry.
