Mammoet Executes 612-Tonne Lifts At Zayed National Museum

Dubai (PlantAndEquipment.com) - Heavy lifting specialist Mammoet carried out numerous tasks of complex modular installations at the Zayed National Museum in Abu Dhabi, pairing up with main contractor BESIX–Trojan General Contracting JV to provide vital lifts on the project.

Mammoet, involved early in formulating the lifting plan, recommended using its SK series crane rather of a huge crawler crane because of site congestion and heightened labor conditions. The SK crane's substantial capacity and extensive reach allowed placement away from congested construction areas while ensuring access to interior lifting points.

The crane was initially configured as an SK350 and subsequently re-rigged as an SK190 to accommodate evolving site constraints. In both configurations, it performed with a 135-metre main boom. The maximum lift attained was 612 tonnes at a working radius surpassing 150 meters, with ground bearing pressure sustained at 26.9 tons per square metre.

Mammoet created custom adjustable rigging using strand jacks to manage the tilting and alignment of enormous, irregularly shaped prefabricated gallery pods. The pods were manufactured at ground level and then elevated into place, minimizing labor at height and enabling concurrent building operations.
